The 17th edition will follow last year’s format, meaning there will be a total of ten participants, marking the third time the IPL has featured ten teams instead of eight, as it was until 2022. The teams in play are the same as last year.
The Chennai Super Kings won the title last season. This marked the team’s fifth win, tying them with the Mumbai Indians for the most IPL wins. They won their other four in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. It was also a major improvement from 2022 when they ended the season as the 9th team in the rankings, their worst in history.
The franchise is the favourite to win IPL 2024, but the Mumbai Indians are also favoured by many, with the Gujarat Titans a very close third.
The league will likely start on 22 March, with some predicting 23 March as the start date. However, it’s unclear as the general elections in India will probably occur in April or May. IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal stated on 14 February that they will work with the government to determine the best time for the IPL.

Read MoreAs mentioned, a total of ten teams will participate in the upcoming IPL. This will be the fourth time for the league to host ten participants — once shortly in 2011 and then from 2022 onwards. The format will remain the same: namely, each team will play 14 matches during the regular season, and the teams will be placed in two groups of five teams. Every franchise will play twice against the five teams in the other group and once against each of the four teams in their group.
There will still be an overall ranking for all teams, and the four top-ranked teams will then proceed to the playoffs. The 3rd and 4th seeds will play in the Eliminator round, while the 1st and 2nd seeds will play in the Qualifier 1 match to earn a place in the finals. The team that loses Qualifier 1 will then face the winner of the Eliminator round via Qualifier 2 to determine the second finalist.
The date for the IPL 17 final is unknown, but it will likely take place in early June 2024.
Here’s a table of all teams set to participate in IPL 2024.
Our team has created a dedicated IPL head-to-head statistics page, which can help you understand some of the ongoing rivalries in the league and make betting decisions accordingly.
What makes the IPL exciting is the fact that each team has its own biggest opponent. New rivalries are bound to be forged this season, resulting in fresh IPL team head-to-head records.
We have performed a careful IPL head-to-head analysis for every pair currently in the league, and we’ve dedicated a whole page to it. You will gain an in-depth insight into IPL historical head-to-head results and other relevant statistics, which might help you choose when placing bets. Of course, you shouldn’t forget about the latest additions to every team, as this is also beneficial when making your cricket betting strategy.
If we were going to list a single rivalry as the biggest one in the league so far, it would definitely be between the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, as both teams have been very successful.
This rivalry is also referred to as the El Classico of the IPL since the two teams have faced each other 36 times — more than any other pair. The two have won 10 titles combined in 16 seasons of the IPL, each having 5 titles. The third-best team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, has only 2 titles.
Neither managed to reach the playoffs in 2022, occupying the bottom two places in the table. Everyone thought their dominance ended, but they proved their critics wrong in 2023. Both reached the playoffs, with the Super Kings placed 2nd and the Indians 4th in the rankings. Then, the Mumbai Indians ended the playoffs as the 3rd best team, while the Chennai Super Kings won the title, finally tying with the Indians in the all-time rankings.
Some important rivalries you can learn more about include MI vs CSK, MI vs KKR, MI vs RR, CSK vs PBKS and more.
The BCCI is yet to announce the official schedule at the time of writing, with the latest update from 14 February confirming that the league will once again play in India.
However, the likely start date is 22 March, and due to the general elections, the league will likely last a bit longer than usual, with the playoffs reaching us in early June instead of late May, as was the case in 2023.
We’ll make sure to give you an update once things change. Moreover, as always, you’ll be able to find the initial matches in the betting section a few days before they start.
Here's a short IPL 2024 performance review to help you get ready for the upcoming season.
IPL 2024 returned to the basics, showing that the old dogs have still got it. After the 2022 season brought two new teams, with the Lucknow Super Giants reaching the playoffs and the Gujarat Titans winning the trophy, 2023 showed us that the former kings of the IPL can still come back. The new players reached the playoffs, but we also got the two teams with the most trophies. In other words, we got a real old vs new knockout round.
The defending champions, the Gujarat Titans, managed to reach the finals again but were defeated by the Chennai Super Kings. The Mumbai Indians clinched the 3rd spot, and the Lucknow Super Giants the 4th.
In the group stage, GT were first, CSK second, LSG third, and MI fourth. The worst team were the Sunrisers Hyderabad, with only four wins, the least of all franchises. These standings were interesting, as they brought MI and CSK from the bottom of the table to the highest spots compared to the year prior.
As for the IPL 2024 top players analysis, Shubman Gill of the Gujarat Titans won the Orange Cap, scoring the most runs of all — 890, over 17 matches. His teammate, Mohammed Shami, won the Purple Cap by having the most wickets — 28. Shubman Gill was also the Player of the Season.
Other outstanding performers included Faf du Plessis from RCB, who had the most sixes and made the longest six of the season, Devon Conway of CSK, Mohit Sharma of GT, and Rilee Rossouw of DC, who won the Team Fairplay award.
Our short IPL 2024 tournament summary is as follows: It was exciting and mesmerising, bringing a lot of surprises. Runs got bigger and quicker, while the impact players truly had their say this time around. The season also had the lowest win percentage for the home teams, only 39.1%, continuing last year's downward trend.
As we’ve mentioned, at the end of IPL 2023, we got two teams with the most IPL titles, five each for the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians. However, there were several other IPL seasons with different champions, so here’s the list for you to always have in mind:
